Anti-aging Medicine is a medical speciality founded in the application of advanced scientific and medical technology for the prevention, early detection, treatment and thus reversal of age related dysfunction, disorders and diseases. It is a particular healthcare modality promoting innovative and pioneering science to prolong the lifespan in humans based on thorough scientific research. The same applies to Aesthetic Medicine with the emphasis shifted towards the prevention, early detection and treatment of conditions affecting our appearance, lifestyle and even longevity. These two sciences are based on sound scientific research and is a reflection of responsible medical care found in other preventative as well as curative healthcare specialities.
 
Mission Statement :
The South African Academy of Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Medicine (SA5M), only recently formed; dedicated to the advancement of technology to detect, prevent, and treat aging related disease and to promote research into methods to retard and optimize the human aging process. SA5M is also dedicated to educating physicians, scientists, and members of the public on anti-aging issues. SA5M believes that the disabilities associated with normal aging are caused by physiological dysfunction, which in many cases is ameliorable to medical treatment, such that the human life span can be increased, and the quality of one's life improved as one grows chronologically older.

SA5M seek to disseminate information concerning innovative science and research as well as treatment modalities designed to prolong the human life span. Anti-aging medicine is based on the scientific principles of responsible medical care consistent with those of other healthcare specialties. Although SA5M seeks to disseminate information on many types of medical treatments, it does not promote or endorse any specific treatment nor does it sell or endorse any commercial product.

Objectives & Benefits offered as an affilliated member of SA5M

• Allow discounted conference and other related rates and benefits to SA5M members at the discretion of the committee and other third parties.
• Give free information/newsletters at regular intervals to ensure a minimal standard being set amongst its members.
• Apply for CPD accreditation for certain programmes and training being offered.
• Government / Academical advocacy, education and outreach in order to give scientific creditability and accreditation to this specific speciality.
• Affiliate SA5M with International Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Medicine bodies and other associated and recognised bodies as per SA5M’s Bylaws
• Outline its scientific basis to potential peer groups in an attempt to work in harmony, to the benefit of the patient.
• Make available life-extending information based on scientific data.
• Act as an information centre for valid and effective anti-aging and aesthetic protocols.
• Protect its members against unfounded criticism from within and outside the medical fraternity
• Act as a governing body to enforce its bylaws when and if necessary against a member.
• Always keep the best interest of the patient in consideration.
• Ultimately allowing for Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Medicine for true recognition as a particular and essential form of medicine forming part of medicine in general.
